Caeasalpinia pulcherrima is a species of flowering plants in the pea family, Fabacea , native to tropics and sub tropics of America, West Indies  but it's exact origin is unknown due to wide spread cultivation.
Common name of this species is peacock flower, Red bird of paradise, pride of Barbados, The Hawaiian name of this plant is 'ohai ali'i.

Caesalpinia pulcherrima is the national flower of Caribbean island of barbados.


This plant will grow larger in semi-evergreen . Grows in climate with light to moderate freezing, plant will die back to ground depending on cold but will reborn in springs. The fruit of this plant is pod, 6-12 cm long.
All seeds of caesalpinia are poisonous.

However, the seeds of some species are edible before they reach maturity.
